Chapters 1-3 The Great Gatsby

One. . .

Nick Carraway, the narrator of this story, has moved to Westward Egg, Long Island, hoping to go a well-rounded" human being too equally trying to experience the feeling of being a human being equally a soldier from WWI. Making his way as a sales bondsman, he rents a small house next door to a very pricey mansion, which turns out to be Jay Gatsby's. Nick's cousin, Daisy Buchannan, and her husband, Tom, live across the bay in E Egg. Nick goes to visit Daisy and her hubby when he meets Jordan Baker, a professional golfer. As they are all sitting and conversating over numerous topics, Tom gets a phone call and leaves to take it. While Tom is gone, Jordan tells Nick that the caller is in fact Tom's mistress. Tom and Daisy button Jordan and Nick together, fifty-fifty though Nick has a supposed girl dorsum home.

Jay Gatsby

That evening when Nick is back habitation, he sees Gatsby exit his mansion. He wants to call out, merely holds dorsum considering Gatsby "gave a sudden intimation that he was content to exist alone." He witnesses a weird event every bit he sees Gatsby standing past the waterside stretching his arms toward the darkness trembling. All Nick tin brand out is a green lite like the one plant at the stop of a dock across the sound. When Nick looks dorsum ,Gatsby had disappeared.

    George Wilson, a car repair garage owner, also Mrytle's married man, talks to Tom nigh business manners until he tells Myrtle quietly that he wishes to meet her. They arrange a meeting and Myrtle uses the excuse of seeing her sister in New York to get abroad. On the manner to Tom and Myrtle's apartment, Myrtle sees a man selling dogs and insists that she get one. At the apartment, Myrtle phones her sister, Catherine, and her friends, the McKee's. After getting increasingly boozer, Myrtle becomes more and more outspoken most her life and soon becomes upset and starts shouting "Daisy" loudly. Tom, upset about this, hits Myrtle and breaks her nose. The party ends and Nick, along with the McKee's go home.

Three. . .

Jay Gatsby, existence known for his huge parties, throws 1 over the weekend. You lot can see the people flocking to his house to employ his pool, boats, cars, and etc. His parties served two dinners including an orchestra and a small-scale amount of musicians. Gatsby'southward parties often lasted throughout the night into the morning. Nick receives a handwritten annotation request him to join the parties. Many participants are non actually invited, just simply arrive and know they will not be turned away. During the party, Nick tried to find Gatsby, only the party is as well busy. Equally Nick walks around, he discover Jordan Baker and she joins him in walking around.

T hey mingle around and hear all kinds of different rumors about Gatsby; i existence that he once killed a homo. Nick gets a little tipsy after several spectacles of champagne, and begins to antipodal with Mr. Jay Gatsby himself, only doesn't know it. Later, Gatsby takes Jordan Baker to the side to talk to her about something betwixt only the two of them. What they talked about isn't told, but Jordan says that information technology is "the about amazing thing."Nick meets support with Jordan Baker in mid-summer and begin 'dating'. Nick realizes, nonetheless, that Hashemite kingdom of jordan is "incurably dishonest" with the fact that she had once been accused of cheating in a golf game tournament. Even though he knows this, she is attracting towards him and really states "I am one of the few honest people that I have ever known"
